Results of 2023 Board election

On behalf of the ORCID Board and staff, thank you to everyone who submitted nominations and participated in this year’s Board election process, especially the members of our Nominating Committee. With the election now concluded, we are pleased to announce the results of the ORCID Board election. New members will serve a three-year term starting in 2023.

Year in review: Q&A with ORCID Executive Director Chris Shillum

As we close out 2022, our 10th year since the launch of the ORCID registry, staff writer Élan Young sat down with Executive Director Chris Shillum for an end-of year Q&A to capture some of his thoughts about ORCID’s highlights for the year, as well as some things he expects us to accomplish in 2023.

Welcome to the Latvia consortium!

We are pleased to announce that the recently formed Higher Education and Science Information Technology Shared Service Centre (Augstākās izglītības un zinātnes informācijas tehnoloģiju koplietošanas pakalpojumu centrs) (VPC) has taken the lead to coordinate the Latvia ORCID Consortium. VPC seeks to strengthen the community of practice around ORCID in Latvia and promote the added value of using PIDs like ORCID. The consortium is composed of the major universities in Latvia: University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, and Riga Stradiņš University.

DEI at ORCID

We are pleased to report that we have made great progress against our DEI initiatives in 2022, most notably the launch of our Global Participation Program with our Member Equity Program and our Global Participation Fund. We invite you to browse our public ORCID DEI Agenda Trello board where we track our progress. If you have any questions or concerns about DEI for us to consider, we invite you to submit those via our Feedback Form. You can submit that either anonymously or include contact information if you would like us to follow up with you.

4Science improves DSpace capabilities for institutional repositories

DSpace, now a Certified ORCID Service Provider, provides open-source repository software. 4Science stepped in to resolve the gap between a repository widely utilized in Canada, Latin America, and Southeast Asia and initiated capability to easily connect to the ORCID Member API, making their repository content linkable. Prior to this integration, ORCID members were unable to exchange data from their DSpace IR to the ORCID Registry to populate local author profiles. Read more about what the DSpace-ORCID integration enables.

DMPTool

Attention academic librarians, research administrators, and researchers applying for NIH funding: Did you know that the National Institutes of Health has issued a Data Management and Sharing Policy effective for due dates on/after 25 Jan, 2023, to promote the sharing of scientific data? The DMPTool, offered by ORCID/US Community member (and PID partner) California Digital Library, makes compliance easy. Here is a quick primer for how to use the DMPTool to push your Data Management Plan to your ORCID record in the Works section.
